Gowlings Solicitors closure.

Gowlings Solicitors closure.

Support available for clients left uncertain about their legal matters.

The sudden closure of Preston based Gowlings Solicitors will inevitably leave some clients concerned about what happens next with their legal cases.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) shut down the firm, which operated from Derby House in Preston, with immediate effect on 20 October 2026, saying that action was necessary to protect clients’ interests.

The firm handled a range of legal work, including personal injury. For people who had instructed the firm, the news will raise important questions about ongoing cases, deadlines, paperwork and who will now be handling the cases.

A difficult time for clients

The closure of a law firm can create considerable uncertainty, particularly for people who are already dealing with stressful or life changing circumstances.

Clients may be worried about ongoing personal injury cases,  particularly whether deadlines will be met, where the case is up to,  if they are anticipating a medical appointment or a court date or even an offer of settlement. They may not know who to contact, whether their case will continue or what steps they need to take to protect their position.

At WE Solicitors, we recognise how unsettling this situation can be for everyone involved. Clients deserve clear information about their legal matters and reassurance that there are steps they can take to find out what happens next.

Need help with an ongoing case?

WE Solicitors is encouraging anyone who was a personal injury client of Gowlings Solicitors and is unsure what to do next, to get in touch.

Our team can discuss your concerns and help you understand what options may be available.

Every case is different, and the appropriate next steps will depend on the type of case involved and its current stage. The SRA’s intervention process will determine how clients can access their files and relevant information.

If you are affected by the closure, it is important not to assume that your legal matter has simply disappeared. If you are concerned about an upcoming hearing, transaction or deadline, seek advice promptly.
