The accident
A worker suffered multiple fractures following their arm being caught in unguarded conveyor machinery. Ribeca Jesuthasan was working for David Wood Baking at the food manufacturing factory in Kent.
Ms Jesuthasan was cleaning a sausage roll production line when she passed her hand through an unguarded conveyor roller. Although the conveyor line was switched off, it began to operate while she was cleaning it.
The dangers of unguarded machinery
Conveyor systems and other industrial equipment can present significant risks if moving parts are not properly guarded. When employees are working in close proximity to machinery, serious injuries can occur if they become caught, crushed or trapped.
