WE Solicitors is asking former clients of Bridger & Co, Builth Wells, Wales, to come forward if they have been left facing unexpected legal costs following their case.
WE Solicitors has recently been approached by a client who says they have been left facing an adverse costs order following litigation in which they were represented by this firm.
An adverse costs order can have serious financial consequences, potentially requiring a client to contribute towards the legal costs of another party.
The circumstances surrounding each case will be different, and an adverse costs order does not, by itself, establish that a solicitor has acted improperly. However, the experience of the client who has approached WE has raised questions about the advice they received and the financial risks they understood they were taking.
Costs and litigation risks.
The issue of costs and litigation risk is an important one. The Solicitors Regulation Authority says clients should receive clear information about how their matter is priced and, where appropriate, about the likely overall costs, risks and progress of their case.
The SRA also warns that even claims conducted under “no win, no fee” arrangements can sometimes result in a client being responsible for substantial costs, including potentially the other side’s costs, depending on the circumstances and the protection arrangements in place.
David Wingate, Partner at WE Solicitors has acted for a number of clients who faced similar situations following the collapse of SSB Law. He successfully concluded cases for clients who found themselves in extreme difficulties.
Were you a Bridger & Co client?
WE Solicitors would like to hear from anyone who believes they have experienced a similar situation.
In particular, we would be interested in speaking to former clients who:
- have received an adverse costs order;
- have unexpectedly been told they are responsible for another party’s legal costs;
- believe they were not properly advised about the financial risks of their case;
- or have concerns about the way their litigation or costs were handled.
Every case is different and contacting us does not mean that you necessarily have a claim against your former solicitor.
However, if you have been left facing a significant costs liability and are unsure about your position, it may be sensible to seek independent legal advice.
If this has happened to you
WE Solicitors is offering a confidential initial discussion to people who believe they may have experienced similar circumstances.
You do not need to know whether you have a legal claim before getting in touch.
If you were represented by Bridger & Co and have been left facing an adverse costs order, WE Solicitors would like to hear from you.
The information provided will be considered on an individual basis. Any potential claim would depend on the particular circumstances, documentation and advice provided in each case.
